How the Bay Came to Be

Narrator: They call it a drowned river – an inheritance, bequeathed by the last Ice Age; when great ice sheets melted and the ancient Susquehanna River was flooded by resulting global sea level rise. Today, the Chesapeake Bay is the United States' largest estuary, a time capsule chronicling the huge drama of climate change, mighty storms, the rise and fall of species.
